Greta Garbo at Brighton.

Well, a darker and less aloof Antipodean version, anyway. It was sunny but freezing, so the mystery was not contrived, but necessary.
This photo thing is tricky. No idea how to put one up as a profile pic, but if I did, I think Greta would be the one.

More recently though, I have discovered my face, at least in profile. This was taken at an exhibition opening last month. I seem to be looking a bit pensive, and not at all brimming with wit and sparkle as dear Val suggested I might be. I was probably wondering if anyone would notice if I had a third glass of wine. I'm sure I was wittier once I did.
Now to trawl through all those holiday snaps ...

WOW!!! Everything and more than I imagined! Stunning! What were you? A child bride? How can you possibly have two teenage daughters?
Got to go back to bed now, but more later. Welcome to the world Face of Margie!

Haha you flatterer. No, I was not a child bride - I was 26, I have not two but three teenage daughters, (13, 15 and 17)and will be 48 in September. And did you honestly think I would put up any picture that proved it?

Have you any idea how long it took me to photoshop out most of my wrinkles, my four chins, a distinct moustache and ten extra kilos? Silly girl.

Val is not exaggerating, not at all! A stunning picture indeed!

(photoshop is such a handy tool, too ;-))

But... as the Romans used to say, 'in vino veritas'. It must come from the experience that one is wittier after a glass or two, don't you think?

Btw, the profile picture: if you decided to set one... First you'd need to have the photo uploaded somewhere, so that there would be a link for the photo. For instance you uploaded those two pictures on blogger and therefore can see their links if you hover the mouse pointer over them. Then you would need to go to www.blogger.com, then click 'edit profile'. Scroll down to the photograph bit and paste the photo link to the photo url box. Click 'save profile', and you're done.

Thanks for the tip Maria - perhaps I will make that my next project.

Alas I don't have Photoshop, although I think Mads uses a version of it on her PC. (You lie, woman - go on, admit how much you paid her to doctor this mugshot for you!) No, I prefer to adopt a more thorough approach to truly unflattering photos, applying skilful use of the "delete" button. It's a sort of personal revisionism. It works really well until you walk past a mirror.

Margie, what a great picture! I'd never have put you at 48.

Berets are tres tres chic!

Maria - I did it! Took ages, as I was struggling with the Blogger html link for which the image was too big at first. Next time I'll read the instructions properly.

Not sure the image altogether epitomises Val's view of me as elegant in any way, but I'm afraid it's a fairly typical attitude when I'm relaxing. I used this one in honour of your "in vino veritas" truism.

Oh, and Anne-Marie - I'm not quite 48 yet, so that must explain it. That and the wonderful preservative effects of the odd good glass of red. (And the ability to choose which photos I post, of course!)

Margie!! What a great profile pic! Koos says it can't possibly be you and must be one of your daughters..hehe...I told him it fits perfectly with your wonderful sense of fun and enjoyment...and well, I'm sure the elegance is another facet of your scintillating personality ;-)

I like seeing the Face of Margie on show...whichever way you want to present it.

And I'm not flattering you ...no no, I'm absolutely not... I mean you've got even more daughters than I thought to add to it!

Well Margie, completely without flattering: if you go on like this you just might look fifty by the time you are seventy.

I'm leaving a comment on your 'hair' (and the absence thereof)-post.
Just to mske sure you don't miss it.

Ha – thanks Koos, but actually I feel and look about a hundred today. Combination of work, school meetings, pressures of domestic bliss and lack of sleep.

Anyway, I’ve just been to investigate your “hairy” comment. You’ve reminded me that yes, in some ways we’ve gone full circle; when I came across some old Playboy magazines my older brother had smuggled into his room when I was very young, the women in them were (on the rare occasions when a judiciously positioned pillow or prop concealed all) without exception hairless. Perhaps it was supposed to look classical and pure of form like a Greek statue? There’s a thought. Or perhaps pubic hair was just considered too rude. I wonder if the hair was just airbrushed out? (Gives a new meaning to brushing your hair!). Either way, I bet it gave him a shock when he found out the nether regions of a woman are naturally more, um, insulated.

Do German women really not shave their armpits routinely? I bet Claudia Schiffer does.

Thanks for the comment – I really MUST get off my cyber-bottom and come and visit your blog properly. Too many lovely bloggers to get to know - too little time to do it. But you're still top of my "to do" list!

And how's our very own Greta Garbo doing today? It's plummeted in temperature here from a blistering 30 degrees at the weekend to a meagre 12 degrees today and even colder tonight. Unbelievably changeable...they had to stop the Rotterdam marathon on Sunday because of the heat! Absoluterly true!

And no, I wasn't running this time.....so it wasn't anything I did ;-)

I do not have your email, so I answer you in this way, with regard to your post on my own weak blog...this is what I posted in return:

==================

Hi to all you two folks that left me a comment!

To help respond to your mentionings, here is what I received (very unexpectantly) just this last week:

Congratulations, Dan (with full name), you've won the Lifehouse Lottery!

You have been granted the opportunity to sit for 3 musical portraits.

You are one of the first few people to have this opportunity and we would like to
request your assistance in beta testing the system before its official launch later
this year. What this means in practice is that if you encounter any problems while
sitting for your musical portrait wed like you to tell us about them including
copies of any error messages you see. We'd also like you to let us know if you have
any difficultly using the system or have any comments on how we could improve it.
We may also be contacting you to ask your opinion of specific aspects of the system.

If you'd prefer not to provide this additional feedback or want to wait until the
system is in a more polished state then please let us know by sending email to
webmaster@lifehouse-method.com before sitting for a musical portrait - this will
forfeit your current opportunity to sit for a musical portrait but will not prevent
you from winning again as a later date.

To sit for your musical portraits you will need to log-in at
http://www.lifehouse-method.com using your email address and the password
you chose when you created your profile.

We also request that you keep your password confidential and do not allow others
to make use of the system by logging in as you.

best regards

There you have it!

I have, so far, done one sitting only. It is pretty neat. I have yet find proper time to go it again, but it does not take long.

I am honored, but don't really understand why. I know not how this shabang works.

I have meant to comment on your Antipodean version of Greta Garbo: she looks nearly as chic and stylish as Peter Cook's Emma Bargo :-)

Seriously, though, you are definitely photogenic.

Way hey, Margie, it's your cloggie pal reporting from the flood line, and manning the dykes as I write.

This means of course that watery ways has been given a boost....

Hope your weekend was a rocking good one my antipodean muse....

Hi Dan - is my email link not working? I've had mail from you before, so perhaps it's gone pear-shaped just recently. Will check. Anyway, I am, as I said, delighted that you've been selected, as have several of my other "favourite" bloggers. I don't always do the rounds of blogs as a good bloggy should (time, time ...), but there are those whose comments on Pete's and Rachel's blogs I especially enjoy, and I see many of them are now sitters. Thanks for posting the blurb too - nice to see how it's all working.

Speaking of which Maria, I loved the piece you posted (left a proper comment there); it was good of you to share something so obviously personal. It's so great to see the Method working as planned. I have sent an email to Helen at Eelpie requesting a password for the live link to the launch on Wednesday, so with luck I'll be there one way or another.

Emma Bargo - hahaha! What a legend.

Vally, thank you - I have visited, printed, read and generally made a nuisance of myself over there. I am loving Watery Ways so much.

The weekend was brilliant, thank you; found several great bands I'd never heard before, and saw jazz, rock, music/comedy and reggae. So much fun, and it was great to have the seventeen-year-olds around, as they were able to point me towards some great sounds I might not otherwise have had on my list of must-do's. The fact that two of the bands featured people who'd been at the same performing arts school as they attend was also nice. It's encouraging to see that the work they've put into training as musicians is translating into professional success. Speaking of which, you know the festival has Folk music as well? Maybe Bruce and the Bargies could get a gig next year? Fares might be a bit expensive, but you could save on accommodation by sleeping on our floor! We only had ten staying at the house this time - I'm sure I could fit up to 15 at a pinch. For you and Koos I'd even give up my bed. (Greater love hath no other sloth, believe me ...)

Oooh, am I really a muse? I like that.

Hi Margie,

I'm not sure you actually need a password for the live link. At least the info on the Method myspace site does not mention anything about it:

WEDNESDAY 25 APRIL 7.30pm. Oceanic Studios, Twickenham £15 (£9 concessions) and webcast. METHOD MUSIC CONCERT. Programme: Live elaborations on the music on the album "Method Music - Imaginary Sitters, Imaginary Galaxies" set for release as download the same day........plus a spontaneous live demonstration of Method music portrait generation over the web performers: Lawrence Ball, piano and synthesizer; Manickam Yogeswaran, voice; Eddy Sayer, percussion. http://www.myspace.com/lifehousemethod http://www.myspace.com/eddysayer

Or did you receive a password in return? I believe the webcast is ordinarily on TowserTV, and you can find the link either on Rachel's blog or at http://www.eelpie.com

Ok, I emailed Helen and received the response that there will not be a live webcast for the Method launch as it's a press launch, but that it will be looped. BUT: it says on Pete's blog that the launch is in the afternoon, whereas the concert is said on the myspace site to begin at 7.30 pm. So I guess the launch is only viewable via a loop, but the concert in the evening is watchable live in the evening on TowserTV.

Blogger MargieCM said...

Thanks for that Maria - much appreciated. I still haven't heard from Helen, but that's fine; will just keep checking the Eelpie site as and when I can, and try to be awake for the live concert, which is at 4.30am Thursday my time. Happily, I don't have to go to work that day!

Sounds like your weekend was magic Marige. I've been meaning to come back here for the past couple of days, but things are horribly hellishly horrendously hectic (enough huh's?) this week. I'll be back properly later, but just to let you know I so enjoyed your comment on Koos's blog, and also your PJ story on mine...you always give me a smile to go to work on...

Blogger MargieCM said...

Delighted to be of service, Val. What's more, I am now seriously thinking of changing my name; "Marige" is rather nice, and certainly better than the moniker I have now.

I picture a slightly past-her-prime but still strangely alluring if slightly decayed streetwalker, wrapped in a halo of Gitanes smoke and leaving smears of blood red lipstick on her glass of absinthe.

I shall start practising.

I'd meant to tell you that I love your "new" profile pic, Margie! Not so new now, I know.(hehe -not, new, now, know:)
You're beautiful, and I hate to say this - I figured you would look
different from the way you do, I think I must envision wise women as looking more... Aunt Bea maybe?
Women that I think of as wise.
Forgive me. I thought you were older, I guess! You look very young and pretty is what I'm trying to say - and doing it badly -lol :)
