First day of Spring

I love Spring, and today Melbourne is trying her best to get into the spirit of the thing. The sun has triumphed for fully ten minutes at a time before fading in the face of tougher clouds, ever-reluctant to relinquish their territory. This battle for the skies has continuted since early morning, and although the weather forecast (this city's best-known work of fiction) has it raining this afternoon, at the moment the sun is winning.

I still have a cold (this is traditional in early September), but the chills and fevers have passed and things are looking up. With the appearance of this watery sunshine, suddenly eating outside seems almost feasable again, or at least not completely insane. I must sweep the leaves off the table on the deck in readiness - right after I bring another load of firewood in. Strange town, this.

Ah, Margie, it sounds like our summer....

Good to see you back again, dear one. You seem to have had a rough ride with your health this year, so I hope the summer brings you health and energy.

A couple of months ago, I dreamed of eating outside at the little house, but we haven't managed it once this year. In July, we had three days without rain and apparently August had five, or maybe seven now as the last two were lovely. It's raining again today, though.

I do hope you feel much much better soon. Lots of love from us here and congratulations to Emma! xxx

Well, it's definitely spring-like here... if you count torrential rain over the past 2 days as spring.
But, alas, the season is moving into Fall here in our supposedly "semi-arid" part of the world.
On a good note, though, I don't mind the rain (well, not too much of it...) and the hot tub was quite lovely last evening, as a chill had spread over the valley - and into my bones.
Autumn is my favourite season!
Some question the fact that, as an avid skier, I should love Winter best. But that's not the point. As seasons go, Fall is, by far, my season of choice.

But, of course, it would not be the same if it wasn't surrounded by the other 3 seasons.

Our weather predictions here are also great passages of fiction. In the mountains the weather can change in an instant and can be completely different from valley to valley.
And we eat outside all year round - go figure...

Hope your sniffles disappear and the sun reappears.

I normally love autumn but it's a bit tooo early this year. What can a girl do with a lousy summer like this....except keep really busy....painting, building, sanding, writing.....and again...

Hah!

Fall has begun just in time for school to begin again for the year.
Now I feel more like cooking in the kitchen, as opposed to doing everything outside, including the prep work.
I kind of enjoy the earlier evenings and geting cosy in front of the fire.

The changing of the seasons - as Joni Mitchell put it - The Circle Game. Summer is coming to a close in this fair colony as you look forward to summer. Autumn is my favourite season and I can't wait until I go on holidays - only nine days to go.

I'll be heading up to the mountains with a bag full of books to do some reading by the fire while looking t the trees radiantly painting a beautiful landscape of bright reds, oranges and yellows more commonly known as the Canadian Fall Splendor.

It's been over years since I've been in the mountains at this time of year. I love the warm days and cool nights and mornings. Taking long walks, listening to the sound of crunching leaves that have fallen under my feet. Oh what your post has done to my head.

Enjoy your fire - while I look forward to mine in a week or so.

Hi Margie, well as we slip seamlessly into Autumn here (no noticeable difference from the summer) I can more or less accept the gales and swirling leaves that seem to be characterizing these last few weeks. Tomorrow is the beginning of our world harbour days here, and we are probably going to escape south. Not that it isn't very enjoyable. It is, but this may be our last weekend in the little house for a few weeks as Momo arrives on Wednesday and then it will be all go to help her settle in here.

Hope you are doing well there dear Margie. Love to Colin and the girls xxx

Hi, happy b-day, 2 days late!

I pray I'm not being out of line by suddenly popping in here...I just recently opened myself up to blogland again. I realize I've been absent awhile and you may have forgotten me!

Hope your cold is going away and I also read a few posts down...re: your "dark" poem. I thought it was really, really accurate. I appreciate the "darker" stuff, too.
Take care,
Heidi

Ooooh bad Margie! I really mean to spend more time being in touch here, but life is so full at the moment, and is often complicated enough to dictate that when I do get a minute, I just need to zone out completely and sleep.

However, it' is SO lovely to come back and see you all!

Vally, my health is really fine, I promise. Many people were floored for a fortnight by the flu thing I had, so I got off very lightly.

Your weather sounds as unsettled as ours. it was superb on Saturday - we drove Em to to Echuca for a Venturers activity, then Colin and I travelled up the Murray by paddle steamer for an hour or so, then had a wonderful lunch in a restaurant overlooking the river, and explored the old town before making the three hour trip home. Today it is feral. Windy, cold and back to Winter.

So is Mo with you now? I must go over and see if you've posted news.

Dale, your Spring sounds like ours, except your Spring is Autumn, which is Fall for you ... how very confusing it all is! Do you really eat outside all year round? In snow? You are indeed made of stern stuff. How do you eat with mittens on? I'll stick with your cosy fire thanks.

So Grace and Anne Marie, you still have hot weather, while Vallypee consoles herself for the loss of Summer by keeping busy. And Stevie smiles ... well the last time I visited you Stevie I found out why. I'll be back to check you've been behaving yourselves.

Gypsy - I can hear that song - but who was it? The brain is going ... it's going ...

Lannio - you're in the mountains by now I expect. It sounds idyllic. Autumn is beautiful, and especially so in magnificent surroundings. Lucky you.

Grace, Maria, Gypsy, Dan, Vally and Dale, thank you all for your birthday wishes, and very happy if belated birthday wishes to you too Grace! Vally - Grace and I share a birthday, and Dan shares his with my Emma. They have better memories than I do though.

This will be my last year in the forties. Serious stuff! Actually I don't mind getting older in the least. It's far preferable to the alternative.

Heidi - great to see you, and thanks for visiting. I certainly haven't forgotten you, but like you, I've put blogging on the back-burner lately. I'm glad you liked the dark poem - sometimes it's good to dip into the dark side. Not too often though perhaps. I will visit as soon as I can - with luck later today, but for now I have to go and scrub myself ready for a new day.

Maybe I'll manage a new post next time. This one is past its use-by date.

That's really sweet of you Antoinette, thanks. I wish I could say I read a lot; I LIKE to, and usually have at least two on the go at any one time, but these days I ony really get time to read a lot at night, and then I fall asleep after a couple of chapters, and that's on a good day. I have a huge list of authors and titles to catch up on ... soon. Thanks for visiting me.

Hi Margie, it is so nice to see you 'on blog' again, and you can see simply from the response here how much you are missed when you go AWOL. A new post is always a pleasure to anticipate, so I will look forward to that, but in the meantime, don't be away for too long. As Antoinette says, but in a different way, you enrich us all with your posts, your comments and your friendship. Hugs, Val xx
And I'm so glad you are really well too!

Oh Happy belated! How frightful I am not to have done the rounds earlier and been on time with that!
Here the weather is kind of my version of perfect... chilly in the morning and night, warmer during the day... ah, sweater season!
There has been something of a truce on the old homesetad, which means an easier transistion out. Packing has hesitantly commenced, I work insane hours just now though, so just a little here and there.
I hope your last year in your 40s is utterly fabulous! I think youi should really take a trip to B.C. Canada before you reach the next one!
A very self serving wish that is! But I am sure Dale would agree! And a layover in Toronto would give Les and Anne-Marie a chance as well!
Best run... still waering my punk jacket and writing grants to the wee hours so sleep has been a little scarce.
much love....
