Bad writing habits
Haven't blogged for a while; the brain is so full of domestic and pedestrian clutter. All very important, but as they say, I can get all that at home, and so can you.
Looking for ideas for topics, I scanned through some of my older posts. All I found was the sad fact that I have some really bad, lazy and cheesey writing habits. I thought I would purge myself by listing some of them:
When working at these blogging larks,
Too many exclamation marks!
And brackets (or parentheses)
Appear too often for my ease.
Then to pause or make effects,
The dash or hyphen - it comes next.
Hanging thoughts are plain to see
When dot dot dot is used by me ...
Semi-colons to explain
What I've just said; but once again.
Italics used to emphasise
Are patronising and unwise.
As is bold type, often used
In case the reader gets confused.
The cliche bullet is my friend:
A cheap effect to bring
The end.
(PS: At least of one there is no trace -
I've never used a smiley face!)

I forgot one: writing really bad doggerel instead of something better.

Margie then, you've read my last post full of domestic and pedestrian clutter!
I always enjoy a peak into our different worlds and you are never, ever boring, Margie.
You have this knack of inserting a certain je ne sais quois into your writing that makes an everyday occurence something of an extraordinary experience.
I do try to avoid exclamation marks!
(or parentheses for that matter)
As you may have noticed, I use the hyphen quite often - usuually to avoid using brackets dot dot dot
What's a semi-colon;?
As for italics and bold, they are not a particular favourites of mine and I have yet to figure out how to insert them into the comments box. Somebody save us, if I ever do.
I also try to keep the amunition out of reach of the children.
PS I have been known to insert a smiley or two into my comments, but NEVER in my posts ;)
Oooh dear. Mea culpa ad nauseam. I promise that in future I will not utter a single exclamation, dash off in irrelevant parentheses, or subject you to all my spastic colons, semi or otherwise. In fact, I already consciously avoid smileys in your presence but for all the rest, I am irretrievably guilty. Now this comment feels so stark bereft of all the usual suspects, so I hope you can envisage the big smile and the bulging cheek where my tongue is firmly lodged.
PS Your skill with verse leaves me speechless. Well, almost. BRILLIANT Margie...big smile
After reading so much brilliance in your posts - you even make poetry pleasantly digestible - and the superb quality of the comments you e- or provoke, I realise I need to be the first to comment here, or else stop trying to keep up with the Joneses, of course; not a bad idea come to think of it.
Don't change!..it's all cool..
BTW-did the greek god Apostrophe invent the puncuation mark?..:0)
punc-tuation!!!!!
I must admit that I'm impressed
By your poetry and prose,
You have studied English well,
and mastered it, it shows!
*groan*

AM
Good grief what a strange and wonderful lot you are. Many thanks for your generous indulgence.
Stevie, I will of course never change anything in particular because I am far too lazy.
Vally, I am mortified that you avoid smileys because of my stated aversion to them. Actually I don't really care one way or the other, but they give me something to pick on. I'd certainly prefer any number of them over your spastic colon! (Oh here I go again ...). Was it stressful to write all that with none of the usual suspects?
Koos, they are a lovely and clever lot, aren't they? You should feel well at home, and I am very happy to see you amongst my few noble regulars. I am glad you find my stuff digestible. Believe me, though, bad verse is definitely a "sometimes" food.
Gypsy I'm SURE you're right and it was Apostrophe. However, my writing may be more accutately attributed to the Greek god of written bilge, Catastrophe - or is it Gawdalmite? I will need to check with my esteemed blogger friend Dr Wisty though , she of the Greek History PhD and fab lens.
Dale, my world is yours any time you want to share. It's a little weird though, and is probably populated with too much of the same sort of chaos you are already too familiar with, and too little snow. Loved your comments - I can't be doing with all that messing about in the box either - I can never get the tags right anyway, and it gets all cross with me and says I'm not allowed. I refuse to be chastised by a computer generated message.
And Anne Marie, thank you for your lovely response in rhyme. The groanier the better as far as I am concerned.
Now I am utterly spent and will toddle off to bed, but I hope to go visiting again tomorrow ...............
Oh Margie!
I hear YA!!!
TOO many of these:!!!!
and these: -------
oh and THESE: ()
But I am with everyone here.
You're awesome.
Don't change!
I apologize for not visiting ANYONE'S blog lately.
I am BACK to my NORMAL self...whatever that is!
I wanted to tell you that the only two places on the planet where butterflies migrate are North America and Taiwan! Pretty cool to have lived on both "continents."
I am so lucky.
Thanks for your beautiful comment. It means a lot.
Love,
Suexx
Glad I happened to stumble upon this as it let the corners of my mouth have a lovely expedition to the ear-lobes. Brilliant. Thanks.
A smiley face? I really don't use that stuff anymore...not since the mid-1990's, I'd say.
But...
My own silly face is smileyed a whole lot!
:
...Almost went there...whew!

Sue - I hope your normal self is doing well. Mind you, normal can be over-rated. Thanks for the info about the butterflies. I really had no idea. Lucky you!
Sean, thank you - I will make a return visit to you shortly.
And Dan - I'll always prefer seeing your own smiley face to an emotiocon, or whatever they're called. The real thing for me every time!
